People are alarmed by the succession of campus fires in recent years. In each of these accidents heavy casualties were reported - houses were burned down students lost their lives and properties were damaged. Faced with such a chilling fact people keep asking "What on earth results in these repeated tragedies?"
A brief survey of them reveals that human factors still prove to be the leading causes. For example three of these fires were caused by the students' use of electric water-heaters. As students often leave the heaters unattended the risks are rather high should the water in the bottle boil dry while no one is around to turn off the power. In other cases fires were also caused by stoves candles cigarette butts etc.
Since most of these disasters could have been prevented if proper precautions had been taken students should be better educated on the importance and measures of fire control. The following three reminders are of particular importance for us students: First learn how to use a fire extinguisher. Second double-check candles heaters stoves and other electric appliances and make sure there are no open flames before leaving rooms. Lastly do not smoke in the dorm.

It was a cold winter day.Three students were reading books in the library. When they left the reading room ,one of them threw away the magazine and it fell into the hall. The heater was on and it was hot.Soon the magazine started to smoke.Then it started to burn.The flames grew quickly.
Outside a passer-by saw the horrible scense and called 119.In a few minutes ,came several fire-engines and firemen jumped out to put out the fire.
Worse still ,a little girl was trapped on the fifth floor of the library .Dangerous as it was, a brave fireman climbed the ladder , broken the fifth floor's window and saved the girl. Luckily ,both of them didn't get hurt.
Finally,with the help of the fire hose attached to hydrant ,the terrible fire was put off.However, the library was badly damaged. Nowhere was in good condition.
The student was sad for what he did.

To develop a skill to fight forest fires, we are sent to attend a course in forest fire control or fire science from an accredited university forestry program. There we learnt that there's as much science involved as there is bravery and brawn. Meteorology, geography, engineering and management skills are all integral to forest fire control. We did learn a lot…! The following are some of the things we learned about forest fire fighting.
1. Study the weather. Wind shifts will play a big part in fire-fighting strategy; an unfavorable shift may defeat all your efforts.
2. Establish a defensive line. Without a large professional crew and airborne tankers, your only chance is to dig a firebreak. Look for a favorable spot, such as a road or a ridgetop.
3. Eliminate all flammable material along your firebreak. The wider you can make the line, the better. Remove deadwood and bushes and scatter them on the burning side of the line.
4. Soak the area along and behind the firebreak with water. If there are buildings in the area, soak them as well. Remove any vehicles.
5. Be wary of the fire jumping past your location and cutting you off. Watch for airborne embers. Also watch out for igniting treetops, which suggest a fast-moving crown fire.
